Counseling For Kids

Children deal with stuff too

Like adults, children can face a variety of emotional, behavioral and social challenges on a daily basis. Participating in therapy can help your kid develop important skills such as emotional regulation, social competence, and self-confidence, all of which will benefit their long-term well-being.

As a parent, you may discover that counselling not only benefits your child but also assists you in better understanding their needs, improving your parenting abilities, and improving family interactions. You are taking a proactive step towards creating a happier, more resilient future for your child and family by seeking help through therapy.

Anxiety in children can stem from or lead to these issues:

If a child is experiencing excessive worry, nervousness, or stress that interferes with their daily life, therapy can help them develop coping strategies and build resilience.

Therapy can help children who are struggling with persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or irritability, by teaching them ways to manage their emotions and improve their overall well-being.

Children who exhibit disruptive, aggressive, or oppositional behaviors can benefit from therapy by learning alternative ways to express their emotions and develop better social skills.

Children who have difficulty making friends, communicating effectively, or understanding social cues may benefit from therapy focused on improving their social skills and fostering positive peer relationships.

Children who are facing challenges within their family, such as divorce, sibling rivalry, or parental conflict, can benefit from therapy by learning coping mechanisms and strengthening family bonds.
Therapy can help children who struggle with low self-esteem or self-confidence by fostering a positive self-image and promoting self-acceptance.
Children with learning disabilities or attention issues, such as ADHD, can benefit from therapy by developing strategies to manage their challenges and improve their academic performance.
Children who have difficulty coping with changes, such as moving to a new school or welcoming a new sibling, may benefit from therapy to help them adapt and navigate these transitions.
Therapy can help children who struggle with managing their emotions, such as anger, frustration, or fear, by teaching them healthy ways to express and regulate their feelings.

We create a safe and fun environment for your child to explore and talk about their big emotions.

Who We Are

Why Free Clear Mind Therapy?

“It’s hard to process something when you feel like no one gets you.”

Anxious people tend to process things deeply and when you get pat answers from well-meaning therapists who aren’t connecting to your history, situation or experiences, it can feel like no one understands what you’re going through.

With over 25 years of experience, we warmly invite you into a comfortable space where you can let go of the burdens you are holding and speak freely about your challenges, hopes and dreams.

We are sensitive counselors who understand sensitive people.

Free Clear Mind Therapy provides in-person therapy in Fishers and Broad Ripple, and virtual therapy across Indiana.

Questions about child counseling

Teen therapy is tailored to the unique developmental needs and challenges faced by adolescents. This means that the therapeutic approach is age-appropriate, engaging, and supportive of the specific issues your teen is facing.

Ensuring a safe, supportive, and age-appropriate environment in group therapy is one of our top priorities. We achieve this with:

  • Skilled therapists
  • Age appropriate content
  • Small group size
  • Clear group guidelines
  • Screening and assessment
  • Active monitoring
  • Parental communication
Because children don’t just say what it is that’s bothering them, therapy for children employs much more than talking. The therapist will meet the child where they are. To do this, they use play, games, blocks, and art; things that bring out a lot creativity and spontaneity. Through this spontaneous play, children will often express their fears which can then be addressed with an attuned therapist.
Yes! We make every effort to work hand in hand with parents and caregivers to give them ideas, insight and specific strategies of support.
If your child is showing signs of anxiety or worries that are affecting their school or social life, they may benefit from therapy. Sometimes, having an outside person talk to them about specific ways to handle their fears helps them move past their issue. Sometimes, just getting it out in the open helps.
Yes! parental involvement and open communication are essential for the success of therapy. While maintaining the confidentiality of the child’s therapeutic process, we make sure to include parents in the treatment plan whenever it is appropriate and beneficial. Typically, we schedule regular parent meetings to provide updates on your child’s progress, discuss any concerns, and offer guidance on how to support your child at home. We may also recommend family therapy sessions if we believe they could be helpful in addressing specific family dynamics or issues. We strive to create a collaborative environment where parents feel engaged and informed throughout their child’s therapy journey.
